Harvey
by Mary
Chase
The
Beloved Classic Comedy - Rated G
Directed by Patty Loftis
When Elwood P.
Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend, Harvey, a
six-and-a-half-foot rabbit, to guests at a society party,
his sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric
behavior as she can tolerate. She decides to have
him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter,
Myrtle Mae, and their family from future embarrassment.
Problems arise, however, when the doctors commit
Veta instead of Elwood, but when the truth comes out, the
search is on for Elwood and his invisible companion.
When he shows up at the sanitarium, it seems that the
mild-mannered Elwood's delusion has a strange influence on
more than one of the doctors. Only at the end does
Veta realize that maybe Harvey isn't so bad after all.
CHARACTERS:
MYRTLE MAE (30-45): Spinster, not beautiful, prone to
outbursts over her uncle, winds up cozying up to Wilson
(the sanitarium attendant). VETA LOUISE (50-65):
Elwood's sister, somewhat hysterical and flighty, very
much a "keeping up appearances" person ELWOOD P. DOWD
(45-65): Calm, mild-mannered, dreamy, pleasant, goes
everywhere with his imaginary friend, Harvey, a rabbit
MRS. CHAUVENET (60-70): Wealthy, upper-class appearance,
speaks grandly, long-time family friend, fond of Elwood
NURSE KELLY (22-30): Very pretty, professional,
likeable, interested in Dr. Sanderson, works at
Chumley's Rest DR. SANDERSON (30-40): Good-looking
doctor at Chumley's Rest, interested in Nurse Kelly
DR. CHUMLEY (55-65): Head of sanitarium, business-like,
develops a bond with Elwood BETTY CHUMLEY (50-60):
Wife of Dr. Chumley, good-natured, bustling JUDGE
GAFFNEY (70's): Elderly, white-haired, full of himself
to the point of caricature, long-time family friend
E. J. LOFGREN (40-55): Cab driver who comes in for three
pages at the end of play, but has some very good lines!

Helen's Most Favorite Day
by Mark
Dunn
Romantic Fantasy - Rated G
Directed by Larry Beauchamp
At a trip to the fairgrounds,
Helen, for whom romantic love has been an infrequent
caller, is swept off her feet by a carnie who gives her
one of the nicest, most special days of her life.
He gives her another gift as well: a "wish". Helen,
playing along, "wishes" for the chance to repeat this
special day forever. And with it comes the direst of
unforeseen repercussions. A gentle comedy wrapped
in a beat-the-clock rollick, as science and logic take a
back seat to the directives of the human heart.
Audition Dates:
Sunday, September 19 ,
2010 &
Monday, September 20,
2010
both at 7pm
Performances November 5 - 20, 2010
Dixie Swim Club
by
Jones/Hope/Wooten
PG-Rated Poignant Comedy
Directed by Kathleen Lovejoy
Five Southern women, whose
friendships began many years ago on their college swim
team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge
those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs,
they meet at the same beach cottage to catch up, laugh
and meddle in each other's lives. The plays spans a
period of thirty-three years. When fate throws a
wrench into one of their lives, these friends, proving
the enduring power of "teamwork", rally 'round their own
with strength and love. A hilarious and touching comedy
about friendships that last forever.
Audition Dates:
Sunday, December 12 &
Monday, December 13,
2010
both at 7pm
Performances February 4 - 19, 2011
'Art'
by Yasmina
Reza translated by Christopher Hampton
PG-Rated Seriocomedy
Directed by Christine Crowley
How much would you pay for a
white painting? Would it matter who the painter was?
Would it be art? Marc's friend, Serge, has just bought a
very expensive painting, all white with white diagonal
lines. To Marc, the painting is a joke. Their mutual
friend, Ivan, allows himself to be pulled into the
middle of the ensuing disagreement. Lines are drawn and
these old friends square off over the canvas, using it
as an excuse to relentlessly batter one another over
various failures. Friendship is finally tested, and the
aftermath of action, and it's reaction, affirms the
power of these bonds.
Audition Dates:
Sunday, January 23 &
Monday, January 24, 2011
both at 7pm
Performances March 11 - 19, 2011
Monky Business
by
Mueller/Boland/Opelka
PG-Rated Musical Comedy
Director TBA
The fun-loving monks of Saint
Bernard's monastery are in a jam. Abbot Costello
and his four beleaguered brethren have just learned that
a real-estate developer is about to turn their monastery
into a gambling hall. Unless the merry Men in Brown can
raise $250,000 dollars by midnight, they're done for.
Luckily, the Brothers have a divine plan. But,
unbeknownst to the other four, one of the monks is
really a devil in disguise and is out to sabotage their
plan. Good and evil race to beat a midnight
deadline in this hilarious male musical. "Monky Business
is heavenly fun - a male version of Nunsense with a
little Damn Yankees thrown in." - WQPT-TV

Who's in Bed with the Butler?
by Michael
Parker
PG-Rated American Farce
Directed by Keisha McFerrin
A California billionaire has
bequeathed all of his assets to his only daughter,
Constance - except the yacht he wanted Josephine to
have, an art collection left to Rene and the antique
automobiles willed to Marjorie. Constance arrives at her
father's mansion determined to find out who these women
are. The butler seems to hold the key, and she learns
from him that the three sultry ladies were her father's
lovers. The butler's shenanigans, the elderly, deaf
housekeeper who has a pet rat, a bumbling detective and
an actress hired to play the butler's wife ensure the
hilarity in this madcap addition to Michael Parker's
string of inventive American farces. Parker is also the
author of BCT's 2009-2010 season's Lone Star Love
Potion.
